Highlights from the
2001 Camp Field Staff Reunion
July 20-22, 2001

WOW!! What a weekend!

This web page is meant to record some of the images and events that occurred during the reunion, but in no way can it capture all the magic that happened. There is something that occurs when friends, who once spent their entire summers (24x7) together, gather again to recall (and sometimes relive) those fun and carefree days of being a Camp Field staff member. The reunion was held at Tall Timber Ranch, a camp located near Lake Wenatchee. Here are some pictures of the camp.

The reunion would not have occurred without the hard work of many people. Pat Murphy handled all the local arrangements with Tall Timber. Lori (Welsford) Wirtz handled all the registration work. Ruth (Jacobus) Piccirillo planned many activities for the younger kids who attended the reunion. Maureen (Sullivan) Fleischman planned the liturgy that was held Sunday morning. My thanks to all who helped make the weekend a success!! And thanks go to Mike Conatore and Bob Smet for sending me most of the pictures shown below (the low quality of some photos is likely my fault, as I tried to compress file sizes to ease the loading of this page for those with slow Internet connections).

Here are the web pages used to announce the reunion.

If I made any mistakes in the document that follows, please let me know so that they can be corrected.

Friday, 7/20/01

People started arriving at Tall Timber in the late afternoon. And they kept coming throughout the evening. We had a fairly good turnout for Friday evening's dinner and the subsequent campfire. Many thanks to Joan Griener for making copies of the Camp Field song book.

Here are some staffers and families gathered around Tall Timber's campfire circle.

Some people were shy about getting up to lead a song -- it is a bit difficult to be goofy when your spouse and kids are in the audience. Luckily, we had Pete Crowley and Bob Smet to lead us in "Shaving Cream".

Here are some staffers looking up the words to camp songs in the trusty old song book. Left to right is Lori (Welsford) Wirtz, Ruth (Jacobus) Piccirillo, John Schwinberg, and Jennifer Cockrill.

Saturday, 7/21/01

Saturday was filled with many activities. A small group of intrepid hikers conquered a nearby trail. Others played frisbee golf on Tall Timber's frisbee golf course. Some people went for runs and others went mountain biking. But with all the activities, there was plenty of reminiscing, long talks, hugs, laughter and tears. The day was capped off by a fun filled camp fire (complete with an appearance by Spike Jones and his City Slickers) which was followed by a slide show in the main lodge.

Here is the group of hikers that climbed a nearby trail to get a bird's eye view of Tall Timber.

The group included Pete Crowley, Lori (Welsford) Wirtz, Carol Waltho, Patty (Crowley) Benitz, Mary (Clerf) Lloyd, Mark and Kathy (Gegen) Mokler, Jerry Roth, Maureen (Sullivan) Fleischman, and Monte Koreis.

Frisbee golfers Monte Koreis, Pete Crowley, and Bob Smet prepare to tee off.
The three M'igos: Monte Koreis, Mary (Clerf) Lloyd, and Mark Mokler.
Scanning through several photos albums that people brought to share were Patty Hebert, John Agnew, Pete Crowley, and Maureen (Sullivan) Fleischman.
Here's a common scene from Camp Field: John Schwinberg entertaining a gathering of friends.

Left to right is Mike James, Ruth (Jacobus) Piccirillo, Laura (James) Davis (sitting), Jennifer Cockrill (sitting), Carol Waltho, Jerry Roth (sitting), Dr. and Mrs. Jacobus, Rhonda (Jacobus) Ellis, Marian (Menzia) Pedersen, and John Schwinberg. I believe that is Bob Smet sitting with his back to the camera.

Preparing for the Saturday campfire is Jennifer Cockrill, Kathryn (Morin) Coleman, and Laura (James) Davis.
Spike Jones and his City Slickers entertain the audience at the campfire. The group is comprised of Pete Crowley, Pat Murphy, and Bob Smet.

Here's a quicktime movie of part of their show (warning: it is an 11 MB file). You can download a quicktime player if you need one.

Sunday, 7/22/01

After Sunday brunch, we held a liturgy service at a small camp fire circle located in the woods next to Tall Timber. The liturgy was dedicated to all the staffers no longer with us (a list of names was read during the liturgy). Afterward, we once again had to say good-bye to one another as we departed to return to our "normal" lives, though a few people extended the weekend a bit longer by heading to Camp Field (now the Sleeping Lady) to take a tour of the grounds.

The setting for the liturgy. It was the perfect site on a perfect day to end a perfect weekend.
Maureen (Sullivan) Fleischman and Bob Smet planned the liturgy and led us in song. What a flashback that was!

... Let us pledge each other that we'll keep Camp Field's friendships strong and deep, till we meet again.

Here are some thoughts that people shared after the weekend.
