Highlights from the July 14-16, 2000 staff get-together

All in all, the weekend get-together was quite a success. Over 25 ex-staffers attended -- not too bad considering the short time frame in which this all came about. Below is a short diary of events.

Wednesday, 6/7/00

The first notice regarding the get-together is sent out on the Internet. Here's a copy.
Note: I was a bit confused regarding the camp ground information. Black Pine and Rock Island are two separate camp grounds.

Wednesday, 7/5/00

A second notice is mailed out.

Thursday, 7/13/00

A few early birds arrive to stake out the choice camp sites at the Black Pine camp ground (almost at the end of the Icicle River Road). In attendance are Joan Greiner, Lynne (Greiner) Balk, and Jerry Roth; as well as a few of their kids. The weather is beautiful, and the small band of comrades sings songs around the campfire well into the night.

Friday, 7/14/00

The Greiner clan heads into Leavenworth to do some shopping, while the Roth family takes a day hike up to French Creek. By mid-afternoon the following people have arrived: Mike Conatore, Ruth (Jacobus) Piccirillo, and Lori (Welsford) Wirtz, along with the Piccirillo and Wirtz families. Around dinner time, Mary (Clerf) Lloyd and kids arrive from the Chatter Creek camp ground where they had set up camp. Mike assists them in moving to Black Pine to join the rest of us.  Just before campfire, Pat Murphy arrives as well as John Agnew and Patty Hebert. The night was again filled with familiar camp songs, all the way from "Ain't Gonna Rain No More" to "Good Ol' Mountain Dew".

Saturday, 7/15/00

Mark Mokler arrives early in the morning, as he is already camping along the Icicle with some friends. By mid-morning the following people arrive: Mike James, Pat Flood, Joe Caruso, Meg (Millbauer) Briggs, Rhonda (Jacobus) Ellis, Rose Jacobus, Marian (Menzia) Pedersen, Carol Waltho, and Kathy (Gegen) Mokler.

Peter Crowley and Bob & Lori Smet arrive just in time to join the group for a day hike on the Icicle Gorge Trail (a round trip from Rock Island to Chatter Creek and back along each side of the Icicle). By late afternoon Nick Schauer, Jennifer Cockrill, and Kathryn (Morin) Coleman arrive in camp.

There is a pretty good turn out for the campfire this evening, and the group is pretty rowdy. The camp songs are punctuated with loud laughter and WeeMeeMeeOhAh's!  Peter Crowley, Bob Smet, Pat Murphy, and John Agnew ham it up as if it were 25 years ago.

Sunday, 7/16/00

The last participant, Maureen (Sullivan) Fleischman, arrives. At noon, a group of people meet at the Sleeping Lady, where Pat Murphy gives us a tour of the grounds.
